Assisted Garbage Collection Service
The City of Alamogordo offers Assisted Garbage Collection Service for residents with disabilities who are physically unable to place household waste or recycling carts at the curb without assistance. This program is intended to ensure equitable access to solid waste collection services and to support residents who require reasonable accommodations.
Eligible residents who meet the program requirements may receive assisted collection at no additional cost. Participation is subject to verification of eligibility and continued compliance with service guidelines.

Eligibility
To qualify for Assisted Garbage Collection Service, all of the following conditions must be met:
- The resident is physically unable to place garbage or recycling carts at the curb without assistance.
- No household member aged twelve or older is physically able to perform this task on the resident’s behalf.
- A licensed healthcare provider must certify the resident’s condition by completing the required medical certification section of the application.
- The approved assisted collection service is valid for one year from the date of approval by the City of Alamogordo. To remain eligible, residents must submit a new, completed application annually for review and approval.
Fees
There is no additional charge for residents who qualify for and receive Assisted Garbage Collection Service.

Residents requesting Assisted Garbage Collection Service must complete an application to determine eligibility.
Applicants may download or request the Assisted Garbage Collection Service Application and must complete all required sections, including a medical certification signed by a licensed healthcare provider.

Additional Details
The Assisted Garbage Collection Service applies specifically to the curbside or alley placement of refuse and recycling carts for collection. It does not include assistance with removing waste from inside the home.
Applications are reviewed by City staff and typically processed within a reasonable timeframe after submission. Residents will be notified of approval or denial via the contact information provided on the application.
Medical certification must be completed by a licensed healthcare provider authorized to practice in New Mexico and signed on the official form. To avoid interruption of service, residents should submit a renewal application prior to the one-year expiration of the current approval.
